Westby Racing Is Ready To Go For The Maximum In Minnesota This Weekend

Tulsa, OK – Round seven of the 2022 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship starts this Friday at Brainerd International Raceway (BIR) in Brainerd, Minnesota.

For Westby Racing and their Superbike rider Mathew Scholtz, Brainerd is a critical round. The time is now to recover the valuable points lost in the championship hunt over the past few rounds and put the #11 Westby Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 on top of the podium in both MotoAmerica Superbike races this weekend.

BIR is a challenging road course, and some changes during the off-season should make for exciting racing. After MotoAmerica’s first visit to the upper Midwest venue last year, the track revised the curbing in turns 6 and 8, repaved the chicane, and improved turn 10, which should yield even quicker lap times this year, something that Mathew and the team look forward to after earning the pole position at Laguna Seca, MotoAmerica’s most-recent round.

Mathew has five runner-up finishes and a race win so far this season. He knows that he’s got the talent, the bike, and the team behind him to close the gap to current championship leader Jake Gagne.

“Unfortunately, we struggled at the two West Coast rounds,” Mathew said. “But we’re coming into Minnesota more determined than ever. I had two podium finishes last year at Brainerd, and with the improvements to the track this year, plus the improvements that we’ve made to our bike, I’m confident that we can challenge for two wins this weekend.”

Superbike final qualifying is on Saturday morning at 10:15 a.m. CT. Superbike race one will go green on Saturday afternoon at 3:10 p.m. CT and will be broadcast via tape delay on FOX Sports 2 (FS2) at 10 p.m. ET. Superbike race two is on Sunday afternoon also at 3:10 p.m. CT and will be broadcast via tape delay on FS2 at 7 p.m. ET.
